International Delegates from Global Off-Grid Solar Forum & Expo 2020 study tour

The UoN-LL and Lighting Global Quality Assurance team hosted World Bank Task Team Leaders (TTLs) and representatives from the National Ministries of Energy from over 20 countries who are working on off-grid energy access programs on 21st February 2020. The study tour followed the Global Off-Grid Solar Forum & Expo 2020 which was being held at Safaripark Hotel from February 18th - 20th, 2020. The participants were officially received and welcomed by Prof. Peter Ngau, Principal College of Architecture & Engineering.

Preparation for a Study Tour: Quality Assurance for Off-grid Solar Products

The UoN-LL and Lighting Global Quality Assurance team finalized their preparations to host a study tour on  Quality Assurance for Off-grid Solar Products scheduled for 21st February 2019 from 8:30-11:30 am. World Bank Task Team Leaders (TTLs) and representatives from national ministries of energy who are working on off-grid energy access programs are expected to attend.

Women in Science mentorship seminar

Women in Science mentorship seminar hosted by Prof.  Michael Gatari-Director INST held in the  conference room Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology on Friday 22 November 2019. It involved the current and alumni ladies from INST and from University of Nairobi at large who are in science disciplines. The guest speakers were;

MSC. PROPOSAL DEFENSE BY ANVAR JOSEPH ALOT

Anvar Joseph Alot, a second-year student taking a Master’s of Science degree at the University of Nairobi successfully defended his MSc proposal on 3rd December 2019 at the Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology Boardroom. His research study is on the structural health evaluation of the Kenyan pipeline system (Line 1- Mombasa to Nairobi). Read full abstract here

Collaboration Meeting CRPM (CUT-SA)-INST(UoN)

Prof Willie du Preez and Dr Maina Maringa, Material Scientists at Centre for Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing (CRPM), Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, South Africa met with a team from the University of Nairobi led by Prof Gatari, the Director Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology for briefing and planning meeting on Additive Manufacturing.

MSC. PROPOSAL DEFENSE BY NANCY OWILI

Nancy Owili, a second-year student taking a Master’s of Science degree at the University of Nairobi successfully defended his MSc proposal on 3rd December 2019 at the Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology Boardroom. Her research study involves ‘associating common cancers in Kenya with specific toxic heavy metals: early screening diagnostic tool using nail clippings as biomarkers.’ Read full abstract here

Msc. Proposal Defense by Mutinda, Henry Kioko

Henry Kioko, a second-year student taking a Master’s of Science degree at the University of Nairobi successfully defended his MSc proposal on 3rd December 2019 at the Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology Boardroom. His research study involves the development of a Low-cost microcontroller based automated gamma column scanner (MBAGS) with a wireless data acquisition system. Read full abstract here
