Prof Willie du Preez and Dr Maina Maringa, Material Scientists at Centre for Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing (CRPM), Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, South Africa met with a team from the University of Nairobi led by Prof Gatari, the Director Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology for briefing and planning meeting on Additive Manufacturing.
Prof Willie and Dr Maina presentations on CUT Research and Innovation Programme in additive manufacturing before having a discussion on future collaboration. From the meeting, it was evident that there was on both sides to engage in the area of additive manufacturing. In the short term, it was agreed that a potential student be identified for joint supervision but in the future, there was a need to consider a system where postgraduate students from UoN travel to CUT for short periods to undertake clearly identified practical work on Additive Manufacturing.
The team noted that it was desirable that UoN works to set up a growing capacity to support research and industry in Additive Manufacturing. As results, the UoN teams were asked to UoN prepares and submits to CUT for their inputs, a project proposal, clearly identifying long term aims and related objectives for possible funding.
