International Delegates from Global Off-Grid Solar Forum & Expo 2020 study tour

The UoN-LL and Lighting Global Quality Assurance team hosted World Bank Task Team Leaders (TTLs) and representatives from the National Ministries of Energy from over 20 countries who are working on off-grid energy access programs on 21st February 2020. The study tour followed the Global Off-Grid Solar Forum & Expo 2020 which was being held at Safaripark Hotel from February 18th - 20th, 2020. The participants were officially received and welcomed by Prof. Peter Ngau, Principal College of Architecture & Engineering.

The attendees, many of whom have plans to start similar labs in their countries,  were taken through the progression of the UoN Lighting Africa Laboratory over the past 10 years, with the highlight on the lab's successes, challenges, and what's required to maintain and sustain the lab. The participants also learnt about the key elements of an effective and sustainable quality assurance framework, including international harmonization and implementation of standards. They also got hands-on experiences with testing and evaluation of off-grid solar products. The study tour was intended to give TTLs and their partners' background knowledge and appreciation for the importance of quality assurance that will strengthen their approach to improving off-grid energy access.
