The Ag principle College of Architecture and Engineering Prof. Peter Ngau officially opened the National Training Course on Digital Pulse Processing in Nuclear Spectroscopy at the Institute of Nuclear Science.

The event was organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency in collaboration with the Government of Kenya, through the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation, Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board and the University of Nairobi.

This course is aimed at training the participants in the underlying principles of Digital Pulse Processing (DPP) which has become a key technique from processing pulse from radiation detectors. The trainer Mr. Mladen Bogovach will also train on the implementation of DPP which has been slow due to proprietary hardware and software, lack of text books, training procedures and educational hardware platforms. The event will also focus on sharing best practices in preventive maintenance of nuclear equipment

This will be done through a step by step development of a custom made multichannel analyzer by using state of the art development tools and a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) based hardware.

Among the participants invited for the event were the technical staff of the Institute of Nuclear Science (UoN), Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Kenya Medical Research Institute, Kenya Agricultural Research Institute, Kenya Bureau of Standards, Ministry of Mining and Physics Department UoN and others.

The event will run from 14th – 18th December 2015.

The contact person for the event is Mr. Anzelmus Odhiambo Matini, of the Institute of Nuclear Science University of Nairobi.
