MINISTRY OF ENERGY, WORLD BANK AND INTERNATIONAL FINANCE CORPORATION VISIT TO UON-LL, OFF-GRID PRODUCTS TESTING LABORATORY

Representatives from the Ministry of Energy (MoE), the World Bank and the International Finance Cooperation (IFC) visited the Lighting Laboratory (UoN-LL) located at the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology- University of Nairobi on Wednesday 12 September 2018.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss the proposed budget for expansion and upgrade of UoN-LL. The purpose of expanding and upgrading is to facilitate product testing capacity to the level that meet the full requirements of the test methods spelt out in ISO/IEC 62257-9-5 edition 4. Currently, the facility has capacity to carry out tests on Pico lighting products and a need exists to include tests on solar home system (SHS) kits.
The Ministry of Energy were represented by Engineers Isaac Kiva, Secretary, Renewable Energy; Samson Kasanga; Assistant Director, Renewable Energy;  Nicholas Maundu and Mungai Kihara. The World Bank was represented by Ms. Aisha Abdulaziz while the IFC was represented by Nana Asamoah. They were received by Prof. P. Ngau, the Principal College of Architecture & Engineering (CAE), Mr. Michael Mangala, the Ag. Director INST. Other University Staff Members were Mr. Charles Njuguna, College Registrar; Mathias Mailu, UoN-LL Manager; Daniel Njoroge, UoN Technologist and Simion Bartilol, Chief Technologist, INST.
The group recommended the launching of a team to write proposal for funding within one month and to bring more partners on board.
