The Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology participated, through the provision of expertise, during the radiation protection and safety training held between 6 - 10 August 2018 organized by the Kenya Bureau of Standards.

Mr. Michael Mangala, John Birir and Wilson Kairu from INST gave presentations in various fields of radiation protection and safety. The training program was designed to prepare participants to successfully assume the Radiation Safety role at a workplace that uses radioactive materials or radiation devices under the Nuclear Safety  Regulations. Through the training, the participants who were drawn from various institution across the country were supposed to understand the fundamentals of radiation safety and be able to confidently apply the scientific, regulatory and practical principles in their everyday work.

During the training, the participant came for a technical visit at the Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology on 9th August 2018 which was meant to give the participant an opportunity to gain practical experience and thus reinforce the theoretical knowledge gained from the training. During the technical visit, the participants visited  the laboratory for industrial process diagnosis: gamma-scanning, industrial applications of radiotracers; the laboratory for Non-Destructive testing; and the Nuclear Analytical Laboratory: Energy Dispersive x-ray fluorescence (EDXRF), Gamma-ray spectroscopy and total x-ray fluorescence (TXRF)
