Ultrasonic Course in session

Professor Prabhu RajagopalAssociate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and an Associate of the Centre for Nondestructive Evaluation at IIT Madras (IITM) delivered an advanced course on Ultrasonics at the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology in the University of Nairobi between 16-27th July 2018.

The course gave the students a rigorous introduction to concepts underlying the theory and practice of Ultrasound technologies for sensing and imaging applications. During the course, learners were taken through wave propagation and scattering in unbounded media and waveguides; common transduction methods and physical principles enabling them; Numerical modeling techniques for visualization of wave phenomena was introduced and an overview of inversion methods for material property or structural defect characterization was given.

The course was made possible through an existing memorandum of understanding between the University of Nairobi (UoN) and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Currently, Professor Prabhu is co-supervising two Ph.D. students at the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology who are under Sandwich Ph.D. programme at UoN and IIT-Madras.
