Training on radiation technology and tracer techniques for industrial processes at the IAEA Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications in Seibersdorf Laboratories, Austria. The training provided theoretical and practical knowledge on three major areas.

  • Elements of radiation protection and safety: Procedures followed to ensure the safety of radiation workers and the general public when working with ionizing radiation. This includes details on dose measurements, dose limits and the principle of ALARA.
  • Radioisotope sealed source technology as applied to industry: Theoretical and practical knowledge of column gamma scanning technique as applied to industries. Experimental gamma scanning was carried out on a laboratory scale column to simulate different industrial column configurations and conditions. Consequently, the data acquired was interpreted to give information including any malfunction about the column.
  • Radiotracer residence time distribution: To plan and execute a radiotracer RTD experiment. This was carried out on a flow rig setup where a radiotracer was injected at the inlet and a response was obtained at the outlet by use of detectors and a data acquisition system. The acquired data was treated and modeled using IAEA RTD software in order to describe the type of flow in the flow rig.
